This Manual outlines guidance and rules for the running of Competitions and Handicaps at Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club, It is subordinate to the Rules of Golf as published by the R&A and the Handicap system as laid down by the English Golf Union.
The Club Secretary in conjunction with the Chairman of Golf shall be responsible for enforcing the rules laid down. Any appeals against their decisions must be made in writing within seven days and will be heard by the full Committee.
The Captain of the year is to decide the type of competition, the tees to be used, the handicap allowance and which class of members are to be invited.
The competition will consist of two medal rounds. There will be 6 trophies.
To be eligible to win any trophy, competitors must play both rounds and submit both cards. Any competitor may win competitions 1, 2, and 3 in any combination, however any competitor who has won competition 1, cannot win 4. In the event of a tie in competitions 2, 3, 5 or 6, the winner will be decided on the last 9--6--3 etc. In the event of a tie in competitions 1 or 4, a further 18 holes will be played, on a convenient date, to decide the winner. If still tied, extra holes will be played on a sudden death basis.
Any full playing member may qualify for the Club Championship provided that he has a handicap of 16 or below on lst July annually (i.e.. after any competition on 30th June). In competition 4, 5, & 6 the handicap held on the day of the Club Championship will apply.
The optional sweep, open to members 18 years old and over will be divided as follows: Competitions 1 & 4 = 2 shares each. Competitions 2, 3, 5, & 6 = 1 share each.
It is expected that the Club Champion will, whenever possible, represent South Cliff Golf Club in national competitions, team championships and alliances etc.

From October 1st to September 30th in the following year, the winners and runners up of monthly and extra stablefords and medals are eligible to enter the Gibson Bowl. This is an 18 hole medal competition in two divisions, prizes given for the first and second nett in each division. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback, ie. 9-6-3. The competition will be played in October of each year.
During the period November to March (inclusive), a medal competition will be held each month. A starting sheet will be used for those scheduled on Sundays (as detailed on page 2) Each medal will have 2 divisions, with lst and 2nd prizes in each division. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6--3 etc.
If in use on the day, the competition will be played to temporary greens, if appropriate as a non qualifier, other than for Lou Beal purposes.
Awarded to the competitor with the Highest number points gained from the Winter Order of Merit. Where the top 5 in each Division of Winter Individual strokeplay competition will be awarded points in order 5 points for 1st Place and 1 point for 5th Place.

The Over 65's Trophy will be a Stableford Competition played off the YELLOW TEES, full handicap allowed. In the case of a tie the last 9, 6, 3 etc., holes will decide.
The competition to be played in 3 age groups, the age to be that on the day of the competition.
18 holes Stableford competition to be played on New Years Day each year. Maximum handicap allowance 28. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6--3 etc.
In the event of inclement weather, the competition will be cancelled.
Matchplay knockout competition over 18 holes. Maximum handicap to be 20 but players with handicaps of 21 to 28 may compete off 20. In the event of a tie, in all rounds except the final, the winner will be decided by sudden death. Final to be played over 36 holes and in the event of a tie, a further 18 holes will be played. If still tied, the winner will be decided by sudden death.
4 Ball better ball matchplay knockout competition over 18 holes. Maximum handicap to be 20 but players with handicaps of 21 to 28 may compete off 20. In the event of a tie, in all rounds except the final, the winner will be decided by sudden death. Final to be played over 18 holes and in the event of a tie, a further 18 holes will be played. If still tied, the winner will be decided by sudden death.
Winners may not play together again.
Mixed foursomes matchplay knockout competition over 18 holes. Players may choose own partners. Maximum handicap limits to be; Gentlemen 20, Ladies 30 but players with handicaps of 21 to 36 may compete but maximum allowances to apply. Shot allowance to be 3/8ths the difference of the combined handicaps. In the event of a tie, in all rounds except the final, the winner will be decided by sudden death.
Final to be played over 18 holes and in the event of a tie, a further 18 holes will be played. If still tied, the winner will be decided by sudden death. Winners may not play together again.
4 Ball better ball medal, qualifying round over 18 holes. Maximum handicap to be 20 but players with handicaps of 21 to 28 may compete off 20. The leading 16 pairs, and those tying for 16th place will play in a matchplay knockout competition during the winter months. All qualifiers will be drawn to determine their opponents with those having the highest qualifying scores taking part in any preliminary rounds.
In the event of a tie, in all rounds except the final, the winners will be decided by sudden death.

Competition format and teeing arrangements (Shotgun or not) to be at the Captains discretion but the date of the competition will be the first Sunday after the AGM. The course is to be closed prior to the competition.

Pairs will consist of a Full South Cliff Golf Club Member and a non Member of South Cliff Golf Club with a bona fide affiliated Handicap from another Club.

An afternoon competition may be arranged at the discretion of the Captain of the year and the format of any such competition will be published on the main notice board.
Greensome medal competition over 18 holes with a draw for partners. Stroke allowance to be 3/8ths of the combined handicap. Maximum handicap to be 20 but players with handicaps of 21 to 28 may compete off 20. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6--3 etc.
Greensome medal competition over 18 holes with a draw for partners, 1 low handicap with 1 high handicap, the high handicap level to be determined once all entries are in. Format to be decided at the discretion of the Professional. The Pro may invite two non members as his guests though they may not win 1st Prize.

This competition is the final clutch of the season and is open to members who have qualified by winning a Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday clutch (October to September) and entering at least 3 during the season. The competition is open to members aged 18 years and above, no visitors may enter. Partners to be drawn prior to the day of the competition. Competition to be played over 18 holes and in the event of a tie, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6-- 3 etc.
4 Ball better ball medal competition over 15 holes. Entries to be in pairs. Maximum handicap to be 28. Only 2 clubs and a putter may be used. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6--3 etc. Prizes to be presented immediately after the competition if at all possible.

NOTE: The Hall Trophy and Walker Cup are competitions held jointly with low handicap players.
During the period April to November (inclusive), one medal competition will be held each month for Juniors both male and female. Competitors must sign the book held in the Professionals shop prior to play and pay the appropriate entry fee. Completed cards are to be placed in the Junior Competition box. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6--3 etc.
The competitor with the best 3 aggregate net scores during the months of May to October inclusive, will be the winner of the Chambers Cup. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by a medal round, over 18 holes. In the event of a tie in the playoff, the winner will be decided on count back, i.e. last 9--6--3 etc.
There will be prizes for 1st and 2nd for the competitors with the best aggregate of 3 scores in the medals i.e. the lowest aggregate net differential score from CSS from 3 medals.
